The name – “kelhe"

In the Spring of 2006, I had been involved in studying God's Word through the bible study "The Patriarchs" by Beth Moore.  It's about encountering and believing that you have and serve the same God as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

During week two of the bible study, Paul & Rebecca (our son & daughter-in-love) came to visit us.  We went up to Silverthorne, CO to ski for the week.  One of the evenings in Silverthorne, we went to the outlet stores to see if we could find anything for a “good price.”

While we were in one outlet store, our son Paul brought up questions and thoughts to me about marketing the purses I make.  It was so funny that some of the same things Paul was saying to me were the same things that Jim (my husband) had expressed to me.  Then he said...You need to come up with a name that you could really market.  I told him I had a name for now.  He said, No, you need a name that will catch the eye...one that is spelled different so that people will take the time to try to figure out how to pronounce it...thus a great marketing tool.  He then started making suggestions on taking my name (Kelly) and spelling it a different way...KELHI, KELHE, KELHA, etc.  Anyway, the whole conversation was a bit overwhelming to me.  I hadn't even decided if I was going to continue the purses or not, or if I did, how I was going to go about it.

So, after returning from the ski trip I had to get back to my bible study and cram a weeks worth into two days.  The study that week was addressing when God was confirming his covenant with Abram and requiring him to circumcise all males as a sign of the covenant between God and Israelites.  But before the Lord asked him to circumcise all the males He did one major thing...He changed the name of Abram to Abraham.

The author writes – “You undoubtedly noted the name change.  Abram means "exalted father" while Abraham means "father of many."  Poor Abram.  Even his name had mocked his insufficiency (hadn't had a child from Sarah).  We tend to desire praise, don't we?  God's intention is not to promote us, however.  He intends for us to bear much fruit, showing ourselves to be His and bringing Him glory (John 15).  God changes Abram's name by adding something to Abram.  He adds to Abram's name the Hebrew letter he, the repeated letter among the four letters of the Tetragrammaton (YHWH – Yahweh).  It is a sound in the Hebrew language, like the letter H in the English language, that is made by breathing out.  The Hebrew word used for the Spirit of God is the word Ruach.  It means literally "the outbreathing."  He breathes Himself into Abram and makes him Abraham, Father of Multitudes.  The new syllable of Abram's name is placed in its center.  Abram, with [Jehovah's breath] within him, becomes Abraham."  (Oh Holy Spirit breath on me!  It gets better...)

So, what happened to Abram?  Inhale and blow a deep breath onto the palm of your hand.  What you just did to your palm, Jehovah did to Abram.  The difference?  His breath brings life!  "I have made you a father of many nations" (Gen 17:5).  Bask in the past tense of the statement.  God had made Abraham a father of many nations before Abraham had glimpsed a single descendant.  Beloved, I wonder what God has already made you.  Things that perhaps you've not even glimpsed.  Believe God!  Give Him your entire being and walk one step at a time before His knowing gaze and with His sufficient strength.  (Wow...the Spirit of the Lord is all over me at this time...I'm beginning to tremble.)

She continues in the study…I was just telling the Lord I needed Him to breathe on me like that---I asked Him to make me "Be he eth."  (Then you aren't going to believe what happened next!)

She continues...What would your name be if God breathed a "he" (the Hebrew letter He added to Abram's name) into it?  (oh my...)

I begin to write my name...K E L (oh my...the tears began...and are even now as I'm writing this)...H E...KELHE...I fell on my face and just balled.  Oh, my Lord, God and King.  The Saviour of the world...The Most High God had me on His mind!  He began by using Paul and the "marketing name" to show Himself to me in a way I've never experienced before...Oh how He took me in the palm of His hand and breathed on me!  I want more!  Breathe on me again and again!

I don't know what the Lord has in mind as far as the purses (except I know my new business name)...BUT, I do know that the Lord wants me!  That He has things for me that I've not even glimpsed.  So, I'm Believing God!  I'm committing to giving Him my entire being and walking one step at a time before His knowing gaze and with His sufficient strength.  I desire to bear much fruit, to show myself as His, and bring Him glory!  I Believe!

What about you?  Are you wanting God to “breathe on you”?  Do you want to experience a new relationship with the Lord God Almighty?  Allow Him to breathe on you…He so wants a relationship with you.

Thank you for allowing me to share my God-encounter with you...be ye blessed!

In Christ alone~
